How to make the most of your University experience in Leicester

By Student Digs on January 17th, 2022

Moving to a new city can be daunting, but there are so many ways to make the most of your time away from home and enhance your university experience.

Use your university

Your university is a great starting point to get acquainted with your home away from home.

Speak to current students to find out the city’s hotspots, whether it’s for a top night out or the best eatery in town.

Most societies and clubs have socials open up to members, make sure you join and give them a go! Whether it’s a society bar crawl or a nice meal out, this is the perfect way to discover different sides to Leicester.

Get to know your city

Familiarise yourself with transport links to navigate yourself around with ease.

Leicester’s bus routes are very comprehensive and reasonably priced, so you can discover the city’s hidden gems, like walking down the Golden Mile or Bradgate Park.

See what’s on – whether it’s sports, theatre or comedy nights you are after, Leicester has something for everyone.

Get involved – Volunteering!

If you’ve volunteered in the past or are keen to give it a go, Leicester has an array of different volunteering opportunities that can pique your interest.

Whatever social issue you’re passionate about – from homelessness to climate change – there is an organisation in Leicester that can help facilitate your interest.

Have a look at Leicester City Council’s website or your Student Union’s volunteering page to see what opportunities are available.

Get involved – Sports!

If you consider yourself a pro or are an absolute beginner of a sport, you can find a sports club in Leicester to develop your skills.

From table tennis to football, both universities have clubs and locations where you can play your sport and meet like-minded people.

You can also rent courts at many local parks, such as Victoria Park or Knighton Park.
